The cover of this book looks quite gruesome, and it definitely is. The scars on her arms are not a ploy for attention, but a way to keep her from the horrifying, and haunting memories that threaten to steal her sanity. This book's shocking ending will make those who joke about rape rethink and regret their disgusting humor.
The main character in this book is a teenage girl named Kendra. This book is about her struggle of coping with the trauma of being sexually abused between the ages of 2 and 12. She cuts as well as uses her phenomenal artistic skills to fend off the fearful memories of her childhood. She keeps this secret from everyone; her parents, her teachers, and even her therapist. This changes when she befriends a girl named Meghan. She feels more comfortable around her than anyone else. As she shares certain secrets with Meghan, she also secretly falls in love with her. Kendra believes that Meghan is straight due to her promiscuity with boys, but little does she know that Meghan has feelings for her that she could never have for a boy.
I think this book is very hard to read because of the pain and fear involved, but I think it;s definitely worth reading. It's one of the books I've read that have really stood out for me. I'll never forget reading this book.
It sounds like a very interesting book with lots of emotional ties. Personally, I feel that the topic would be too powerful for me to read. Although it would not be a book for me to read, I do thank whoever wrote it to bring perspective to sexual abuse for those who joke around about it. Any type of abuse is important and should be taken seriously, so any book that focuses on those topics are incredible.
ReplyDeleteWhoa, this book seems to be expanding in all sorts of directions , from rape to love, relationships and happiness. From what you said about this book, I would not mind reading it because it's both seeing the viewpoint of someone who has been in sexual abuse within their lives, and how life goes by for them and who is there for them creating an overall intense mood that is full of action and potential for readers to become engaged. Just like Jacqueline stated, writing a book like this, is a great opportunity to knowledge people about issues that happen in young lives and how many could be affected by it and how extreme abuse of any sort can be leaving 'scars' on the victims.
ReplyDeleteJust from this book's cover, you can tell it's a very serious book. I'm not a big fan of books filled with more serious topics such as rape and cutting. But, from the description you have given, it seems quite interesting. I agree with Jacqueline and Katarina, this book should give insight on these very important topics to the ignorant people in our society.
